Chesapeake Chapter annual meeting
November 15th

Each November the chapter meets to discuss business matters. On Saturday, November 15, 2008 the meeting was held at the home of chapter member Stan Nelson.

The main business issues were the adoption of chapter by-laws and nominations for the various officers and program committee for the next two-year term.

Chapter President Mike Denker (left) addresses the members present. Others left to right include Greg Robison, Jim Walczak & Franziska Walczak, Pat & Chris Manson.

During the gathering we watched two videos that are of significance to printing history. The first was "The Machine That Made Us", a presentation by the BBC of Gutenberg's development of printing with moveable type and "Cutting the Euro" a video produced at the Imprimerie Nationale, in Paris.
Chapter member Stan Nelson (our host for the day) was an important focus of the Gutenberg film relating to the cutting of the moveable type.

Mike Denker and Roland Hoover welcome new member Kimberly Peach who works in preservation at the Library of Congress treating, rebinding, and rehousing books from 1800 to the present.

Greg Robison examines a wonderful book of Stan's. A close-up of the book and the handcut type by th author is shown below.

At many of the chapter gatherings, a highlight is getting close to good printing. Here Mike Anderson, Roland Hoover, Jim Walczak, and Mike Denker (left to right) take a first close look at the new publication from Henry Morris' Bird and Bull Press The Private Typecasters. The book includes the creative work of several of our chapter members.
