Washington Iron Hand Press Erection Party
Mike Denker's, June 28, 2008
The Chesapeake Chapter was invited to the studio of Mike Denker for a summer send off on Saturday, June 28th and to participate in the erection of a R. Hoe Washington iron handpress.

Mike Denker and Jim Walczak during the initial stage of erection lifting the main supports of the iron handpress. The press with a serial number of 6260 was built in approximately 1876.

The iron handpress is a 'proofing' version, indicated by the architecture of the platen and its grid of square cells. The press uses a figure-4 system construction, common to the Hoe presses to apply the downward press to the platen, which you can see in the center of the press.

Yep. Using one of Mike's many woodtype fonts, it looks like the Hoe is back doing what it does best putting ink on paper.
