James Wilder
Wild Apple Press

Wild Apple Press was established in the late 1960s and is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Wild Apple Press grew out of the “beginnings” of the book arts program at the University of Alabama. That program was established by the then Academic Vice President Raymond McLain, who taught letterpress printing courses and was the proprietor of the Hobbyhorse Press. For the first thirty years the Wild Apple Press was limited to a small Adana press, which restricted the size of the pieces printed. It was not until the Press acquired a Vandercook 3 press in 2001 that the Press was able to print larger pieces. Two years later it began printing books, having now printed nine books by Irish writers in the last five years. The essential emphasis of the Press will continue to embrace newly written materials about Irish topics.
