Jackie Coleburn
I am a rare book cataloger at the Library of Congress. My interest in American printing history comes from cataloging projects I've enjoyed over the years, including the American Imprint Collection, the Shaker Collection, the John DePol Collection, and my current project, our Juvenile Collection.
Trying to better understand the process of book creation in American culture fuels my enthusiasm for APHA events. The type, paper, illustration, and binding often tell a story as interesting as the text.
My book-collecting interest is pop-up and movable books. My collection is small, a few hundred books, and is a whimsical and healthy distraction from the serious business of rare book librarianship. My attempts at making pop-ups myself are not unlike my attempts at setting type: I have learned enough to appreciate those who do it well.
